The Printemps nordique at Place des Arts

The Printemps nordique - Again

Northern culture fascinates and captivates. Whether it be through environmental awareness, humanistic values or simply the leading-edge community initiatives that emerge from these northern countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), the international scene has its eyes turned towards them and This is a good reason to visit The Printemps nordique which is in its last week.

From April 4th to April 29th, Place des Arts invites you to an artistic, social and cultural immersion in these distant countries, but also close to our own reality. A smörgåsbord (Scandinavian buffet) activities of all kinds await you to discover or revisit this culture, not enough present on our boards and in our artistic institutions. Until now.

The Printemps nordique : Multidisciplinary programmation

printemps nordique

During the launch, I had the chance to attend the splendid contemporary dance show Again, creating zero visibility corp. A spectacular encounter between Norwegian choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen and Swedish composer Marcus Fjellström. Happy artistic marriage whose result is a sensual and aerial work. The performers perform an impressive technical service. Daring litters and an emotional interpretation. The sober decor composed of folded cardboard is built and deconstructed over the room, under the accordion notes and an instrument that seems to have been tinkered with an Ikea furniture assembled by a musical genius a little crazy.

Contemporary dance lovers will also be able to enjoy the offering of Finnish dancer Tero Saarinen in duet with accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen, who present a multidisciplinary work with Breath. A discussion workshop is scheduled with the artists on Saturday, April 21, if you want to immerse yourself in the work.

The music is not far behind, as Finnish conductor John Storgårds will take control of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for three nights that will be anything but frigid.

Lovers of literature will be served with the visit of the Icelandic writer Ragnar Jónasson, who will meet with journalist Dennis Trudeau. This renowned author is at the origin of the popular crime series Dark Iceland. Fans of Scandinavian polars, write April 27th on your agenda.

The free section of The Printemps nordique presents the superb exhibition “Frimas – The Life and Culture of the Sämes” which will immerse you in the daily life of the Sâmes, indigenous people of the Arctic. Spectacular photos of these nomadic reindeer herders.
