In this 25<sup>th<\/sup> film of\u202fthe\u202fseries, Mr.&nbsp;Daniel Craig honours agent 007\u2019s dearest tradition: to master, or better yet, send his adversaries on the other side, but also to savour a small glass of spirit between two\u202faction scenes. Yes, his famous Vodka Martini \u201cshaken, not stirred\u201d is one of them, but so are a succession of vodkas, scotches, whiskies and rums. And these liquor brands are proudly displayed in movie sets, with big, well-sponsored dollars, in most cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Vodka, the Essential for the Perfect Martini<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RQ2-m_m3VBo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smirnoff vodka is featured in Sean Connery\u2019s \u201cDr. No\u201d (1962), \u201cThunderball\u201d (1965), in Pierce Brosnan\u2019s sights in \u201cGoldenEye\u201d (1995), \u201cTomorrow Never Dies\u201d (1997)\u2014Smirnoff\u2019s Red label more specifically\u2014and \u201cThe World Is Not Enough\u201d (1999)\u2014Smirnoff\u2019s Blue label this time\u2014, and ultimately, in Daniel Craig\u2019s glass in \u201cCasino Royale\u201d (2006), \u201cQuantum of Solace\u201d (2008) and \u201cNo Time to Die\u201d (2021). In short, this brand association began in the very first Bond film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In \u201cYou Only Live Twice\u201d (1967) and \u201cA View to a Kill\u201d (1985), Sean Connery and Roger Moore preferred the Russian vodka Stolichnaya, as did Timothy Dalton in \u201cLicence to Kill\u201d (1989). As for Daniel Craig in \u201cSpectre\u201d (2015), the Polish rye vodka, Belvedere, found grace in his palate, and in \u201cDie Another Day\u201d (2002) with Pierce Brosnan, Finlandia takes centre stage. Evidently, agent 007 is sometimes curious about, or disloyal to, his spirit choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whisky and Scotch? Oh yes, Bond enjoys them too. Johnnie Walker\u2019s in \u201cThunderball\u201d (1965), Jack Daniel\u2019s Whiskey and Japanese Suntory Old Whisky in \u201cYou Only Live Twice\u201d (1967), where a large part of the action takes place in Japanese territory, and in \u201cOn Her Majesty\u2019s Secret Service\u201d (1969), it is the rare J&amp;B Scotch\u2019s turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for American bourbon, the Jim Beam brand appears in \u201cThe Living Daylights\u201d (1987) and Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky in \u201cLicence to Kill\u201d (1989). Pierce Brosnan preferred Jack Daniel\u2019s Black Label in \u201cGoldenEye\u201d (1995), Talisker in \u201cThe World Is Not Enough\u201d (1999) and \u201cDie Another Day\u201d (2002). M drinks it, Bond drinks it,\u201d says Cameron Millar, The Macallan\u2019s ambassador for Eastern Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the scene between Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem (Silva, the \u201cvillain\u201d of the story), the two men are tasting a bottle of The Macallan Fine &amp; Rare, a collection of single cask releases that has grown to become the largest assembly of vintage-dated, single malt whiskies in the world. In this scene, they had a bottle from 1962, bottled in 1977, as an homage to the beginning of the Bond franchise from that same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary bottle represents the half-century of the Bond film series. In addition, \u201ca bottle of this 1962 whisky was sold in a 2013 auction, signed by Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem and B\u00e9r\u00e9nice Marlohe, with all proceeds benefitting charity,\u201d says Mr. Millar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, James Bond also savours The Macallan in \u201cSpectre\u201d (2015) and the latest, \u201cNo Time to Die\u201d (2021). Surprisingly, the distillery, founded in 1824, does not pay a cent to the film production for the presence of its whisky in the film, it must really be at the tope of the list of 007&#8217;s Favourite Spirits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, Mr. Millar has an idea for our dear agent. The Macallan will soon announce that it will be improving the environmental footprint of its distillery, located near River Spey in northeast Scotland. Since James Bond saves the world in every one of his movies, why wouldn\u2019t he do so with the environment in mind?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>More Fine Spirits in 007&#8217;s Favourite Spirits<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The secret agent, who is at Her Majesty\u2019s service, certainly has varied tastes as we can see in 007&#8217;s Favourite Spirits. In \u201cOn Her Majesty\u2019s Secret Service\u201d (1969), which stars Australian actor George Lazenby in his only appearance as Agent 007, he drinks Hennessy brandy. The finesse of Courvoisier Cognac was in \u201cDiamonds Are Forever\u201d (1971), Bacardi rum in \u201cThe Spy Who Loved Me\u201d (1977) and Mount Gay rum from Barbados diluted in soda for a lighter touch in \u201cCasino Royale\u201d (2006).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, an ultimate fantasy that we share with you: James Bond enjoying French Canadian spirits between two action scenes. Why not a gin, made from a local product, or an Acerum distilled from maple syrup, accompanied by a beautiful (or handsome) agent from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All in all, Agent 007 is really fit, as we can see in all his movies, but we still worry about his drinking habits!
