Needless to say, this Italian cocktail made with Campari, gin and red vermouth has been on every bar\u2019s menu for the past few years, and even more so in Montr\u00e9al\u2019s best gentlemen\u2019s bars<\/a>. It even has a dedicated week<\/a>, it is that popular!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first traces of the famous cocktail date back to 1919 in Florence. The Negroni cocktail is said to have been created by Fosco Scarselli in his bar, Caff\u00e8 Casoni, after the famous Count Camilo Negroni asked him to make a variation on his favourite cocktail, the Americano (composed of 1 oz vermouth, 1 oz Campari<\/a> and a dash of sparkling water), replacing the sparkling water with 1 oz gin, making it a 3-part cocktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scarselli added an orange slice as garnish, rather than the usual lemon twist, and from this moment on, the Negroni was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one of the world\u2019s classic cocktails, the IBA\u2019s prestigious official drinks list lists Campari as the key ingredient. Campari, if you are not familiar with it, is a bitter liqueur. A vibrant red colour, Campari is complex and attractive, with notes of herbs, orange and flowers. On the palate, it is pleasantly bitter with a velvety aftertaste. You will also get intense notes of orange, herbs and wood. Campari\u2019s new bottle is magnificent!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
