The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ 2024: A masterpiece
From the very first moment of contact, the car reveals a refined and formidable character, like a top-level athlete in evening dress. This grand touring coupé with its sculpted lines and meticulous aerodynamics embodies luxury and sportiness in their most spectacular expression. Take a ride with me in the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ 2024.
The design is a work of art on four wheels. The imposing grille, balanced proportions and subtle aerodynamic details make this an eye-catching car. The muscular rear end, marked by tapering lights and a quadruple tailpipe, adds an aggressive touch to this vehicle, which is as much a gentleman as a master of the circuit.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ 2024: Technological luxury
On board, refinement is omnipresent. Nappa leather mingles with carbon-fibre inserts, while the digital instrumentation and MBUX central touchscreen project the car into the future. Everything in this space exudes excellence: ergonomic seats, customizable ambient lighting and a Burmester audio system that magnifies every moment.
A good word for the infotainment system, which is easy to control, even if it does require a steep learning curve. The quality of the display, however, calms many of the hesitations you may have.
Under its hood lies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine developing 577 hp thanks to the integration of a lightweight hybrid system. The A M G Speedshift 9-speed automatic gearbox and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system guarantee blistering acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. The driving experience offers a unique combination of precision and control, whether on the freeway or in tight bends. The AMG Active Ride Control suspension, combined with adaptive settings, absorbs imperfections while maintaining exemplary dynamic behaviour.
On the road
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ 2024 boasts surprising agility for its size (far away from the Mercedes G-Class). In Sport+ mode, it awakens the wild beast, with the sound of the V8 invading the cabin. Activate Comfort mode, however, and this sports car becomes a smooth, quiet tourer, ideal for long journeys. Steering is precise, engine response instantaneous, and carbon-ceramic brakes provide absolute confidence.
This is where the innovations come in. After all, the old AMG was, let’s face it, a sharper performer. Lighter, with no all-wheel drive, the old version was aimed more at driving enthusiasts who liked to battle with their vehicles. The new model is surprisingly docile, thanks to an abundance of on-board technology.
In fact, it was during a duo tour of the Eastern Townships, criss-crossing the country roads of North Hatley and Knowlton, that the car felt most at home. Without compromising on comfort, it took corners with almost youthful enthusiasm, despite its imposing weight. It’s worth noting that the presence of directional rear wheels provides the car with exceptional handling and precise control, even in the tightest curves.
A short stop on the shores of Lake Massawippi brought us greetings from a crowd of curious onlookers, drawn by the car’s matte-blue coat, but above all by the spectacular purr that animates it as soon as the gas pedal is pressed with a little insistence.
Surprisingly, cargo space is also abundant, despite the car’s ultra-sporty pretensions. Imagine two suitcases, and many of the food and craft souvenirs gleaned here and there along our touring itinerary weren’t enough to completely fill the available cargo space.
A balanced masterwork
The GT 63 makes no compromise between performance and comfort. Although it has a high entry price, in excess of $200,000, it fully justifies this expense by offering an unrivalled driving experience and a remarkable level of luxury.
For lovers of cars capable of combining grand touring and extreme sportiness, this is a dream on four wheels. A fast and expensive dream, but one you’ll never want to leave.
