The Best of Gentleman - May 2024

Every first Saturday of the month, you are invited to discover in “The Best of Gentleman,” a selection of different products, and events selected and tested by the editorial staff. Without further due, here are The Best of the Gentleman—May 2024.

We were lucky enough to receive the Meater 2 Plus recently, although we had already received the original Meater Plus. The construction of the latter is more interesting, it is better made. And its temperature resistance allows it to go up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and an operating range of up to 2500 feet for Bluetooth.

Other innovations include multiple sensors that detect temperature in different areas of your piece of meat, and it is smaller, so it lets you use it on smaller pieces. Honestly, this tool will totally change the way you cook. No more nasty surprises.

We were lucky enough to stay at this beautiful hotel by Hilton’s Curio, fully renovated in 2022, during our trip at Travel South USA’s Global Week. What a wonderful place to stay. It really is a perfect one to relax and disconnect. The outdoor pool is magnificent. The architecture of the lobby, the front desk, the outdoor fireplace in the restaurant section that is shared with the lobby remind you that you are in a place where it rarely gets cold.

And let us not forget the charming café, The Black Door Cafe, where you can buy, in addition to a selection of 3rd wave coffees, wines, pastries and more (the cappuccino is simply delicious). More on this in a longer article very soon.

Our editor recently discovered Firsthand Supply pomade at his barbershop, Sacré-Coeur Barbier not to mention them, a product that holds well and is perfect for straight hair. We really like Groom’s products from Québec, especially their sea salt styling mist for a shiny finish, but for straight, thin hair like our editor’s Firsthand pomade is a choice that works more.

Braun Series 9 Pro+ Razor

The Best of Gentleman - May 2024 - Braun Series 9 PRO+ Razor

Our editor-in-chief is testing this new product from Braun, and it is quite effective. He has switched from a three-head shaver to a single vibrating blade, and likes the effect this technology has on his skin. The shaver’s single blade pulls less, is much more pleasant on the skin and offers an unrivalled sensation of comfort. The addition of the ProTrimmer, a precision tool built right into the razor, lets you get to those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

And let us not forget the SmartCare Centre 6-in-1 station, which automatically charges, cleans, lubricates and dries at the touch of a button, for a beard shaver that works like new every day, even if we recommend once a week. A must-have for “The Best of Gentleman—May 2024.”

The Best of Gentleman - May 2024 - 東海道 Tōkaidō Dreamscapes by Andō Hiroshige

These two exhibitions, the first of which opened this week (until September 8, 2024), complement each other perfectly. The first is an enchanting journey from Edo to Kyoto, illustrated by Andō Hiroshige, the great master of Japanese prints. The 55 prints, published between 1833 and 1834, take us on a journey that defies time, bringing us back to the era in the manner of Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

The second, which runs until August 4, 2024, features masterful works that make us reflect on the moon’s place in our space. The Vancouver artist, born of Ukrainian parents, brings us into her world, where the reality of war in the country of her ancestors resonates right through her art.
