Wines to celebrate the end of summer in style!

A celebration is a special social event, such as a party, when you celebrate something, according to the Cambridge University dictionary. By extension, we have broadened the meaning and the fact of raising one’s glass is an action to celebrate, a toast. During a speech, we raise our glass to express a wish, a commitment, an agreement or a tribute. So here’s a trio of wines to celebrate the end of summer in style by paying tribute to France!

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut

Established in 1729, Ruinart was the first Champagne house. Nicolas Ruinart, son of Dom Ruinart, founded it in Reims. It has a straw yellow colour and a nose that invites you to enjoy life and celebrate. Flavours of apples, white plum and candied fruit caress the taste buds, crowned by fresh acidity and radiating the splendour of lightly smoky nuances and fine toasted hazelnuts. Fine and almost creamy, it inspires subtle spring honey. A delight for the effervescence of the moment with meaty oysters, tartare or even salmon gravlax, served chilled. The apotheosis. A perfect introduction to wines to celebrate the end of summer!

This great white from the Côte d’Or is blended with grapes which one third of which come from the Puligny-Montrachet plain and two thirds from the commune of Meursault! Its straw yellow colour sparkles and its ripe fruit is rich, with a slight buttery and salted caramel aspect (malolactic transformation and 1 year in French oak barrels) as well as notes of bread due to ageing on fine lees and stirring of the lees. It is sapid and offers an impression of minerality with a full palate and excellent balance. Perfect with a rabbit terrine, grilled white fish in sauce or gougère salad. A virtuoso. If you can’t find it, try Château Philippe Le Hardi Bourgogne Clos de la Chaise Dieu.

A creation of Domaine de Leos (Patrick Bruel) and Domaine des Alexandrins (Nicolas Jaboulet), Leos in homage to his children Léon and Oscar, and Augusta to his mother. This estate has also won awards for its olive oils! An organic, gourmet rosé from south-east France that exudes aromas of flowers and blood orange, and delights the palate with melon and strawberry. A wine of bliss that radiates, it dances on the palate and its fullness is voluptuous, endowed with aromatic persistence and awarded Decanter 91 pts. Lobster, smoked salmon, veal or beef carpaccio, tomato and goat’s cheese salad or pizza with herbs. Grandiose.

  • 75% Grenache
  • 20% Vermentino
  • 5% Bourboulenc
