OMEGA and the 37th America’s Cup: Official Timekeeper

The Swiss watchmaker reprises its role as Official Timekeeper, which it held at the last edition of the most famous regatta on the planet, and since 1995, when it supported Emirates Team New Zealand (which the team OMEGA still support in 2024), led by legendary yachtsman Sir Peter Blake. The Kiwis’ victory that year paved the way for OMEGA to win the coveted role of Official Timekeeper in 2000, 2003 and 2021. This year, history repeats itself.

Crews, race committees and legions of enthusiasts can count on OMEGA. In addition to having timed previous America’s Cup regattas with flawless precision, OMEGA has been the official timekeeper at almost every Olympic Games since 1932, including those in Paris and the Paralympics which begin on August 28, as we told you in the introduction. As a reminder, the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup  takes place from August 22 to October 27, 2024. To find out more, click here!

A further achievement for the Swiss watchmaker

A distinguished legacy reflected in the confident words of OMEGA’s President and CEO, Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann. “It’s a huge thrill to see the OMEGA name and logo on some of the sails of these cutting-edge boats. I’m proud to say, we’ve earned our place on the water, having served with distinction at three previous editions of the America’s Cup. We’re honoured to be tasked with measuring every microsecond of this historical boat race, and the exciting new races under the America’s Cup banner.”

The race for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup is one of many compelling regattas taking place in Barcelona. In 2024, OMEGA’s timekeeping task-list has expanded to include two new top-level competitions. The Puig Women’s America’s Cup, which makes its debut in 2024, and the Unicredit Youth America’s Cup, an opportunity for emerging crews to prove their worth on the waves.

OMEGA and the 37th America’s Cup: A special edition of the Seamaster watch

OMEGA’s 42 mm Seamaster Diver 300M (also the watch of the famous secret agent James Bond 007) in stainless steel features a unidirectional blue ceramic bezel with a regatta scale, composed of two 5-minute pre-start sections and a START section with a regatta-inspired flag.

The nautical watch has its own waves, laser-engraved in positive relief on the matte-white ceramic dial. Even the coveted cup makes an appearance—on the front and back. The central seconds hand features a counterweight in the shape of an America’s Cup trophy, in the same blue as the Barcelona logo. The full logo, with “Auld Mug” and B for Barcelona, also appears on the sapphire crystal caseback. Behind it lies its power source: the calibre 8,806 of OMEGA’s Co-Axial master chronometer.

Like the competing crews, OMEGA’s tribute to the America’s Cup has been tested to the highest level. As a certified Master Chronometer, the watch and movement meet the strict standards of precision, performance and magnetic resistance set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

The watch, presented in a commemorative blue box with red stitching, can be worn in two ways: on a stainless steel bracelet or on a blue rubber strap. Both are secured using OMEGA’s patented Quick-Change system.

Combining diving watch technology and deck functions, OMEGA’s 42 mm Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup is an essential for sailing enthusiasts and collectors alike.

This timepiece is the latest addition to the highly acclaimed Seamaster Diver 300M range, first launched in 1993. Its wave-patterned dial, raised hour-markers, skeleton hands and helium escape valve are just some of the features of this legendary depth-defying timepiece, which has won over a large number of loyal admirers.

Enjoy the 37th America’s Cup!
