MICHELIN Guide Québec: A selection starting in 2025!

Michelin Guide Québec

Today, August 29, 2024, Michelin and the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec unveiled the MICHELIN Guide Québec, which marks the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide in the province of Québec, and not just in one city. Québec will be the third MICHELIN Guide destination in Canada, after Toronto and Vancouver.

This first selection of the MICHELIN Guide Québec, to be unveiled in 2025, will showcase the best restaurants across the province.

Québec gastronomy in the spotlight in the MICHELIN Guide Québec

Québec has a rich and diverse gastronomic scene that boasts international influences, as well as dishes developed using a farm-to-table approach drawing on a wide variety of local ingredients grown in the four corners of the region. The beautiful province is home to both renowned chefs, such as Raphaël Vézina of Laurie Raphaël, and up-and-coming talents keen to combine traditional and avant-garde culinary techniques in their creations.

A 3rd destination in Canada

“We are excited to plant our flag in Québec as the newest destination for the MICHELIN Guide in Canada,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “Québec’s culinary scene shines a light on the rich heritage and traditions of the province attracting travelers on the lookout for remarkable and tasty experiences. I look forward to revealing what our anonymous Inspectors discover for this inaugural selection.”

The anonymous MICHELIN Guide Inspectors award the iconic MICHELIN Stars – one, two or three – to unparalleled cuisine. The Guide is also renowned for its Bib Gourmand selection, highlighting restaurants that offer great quality food at good prices. The MICHELIN Green Star is given to restaurants that are leaders in sustainable gastronomy. Recommended restaurants and special professional awards are also highlighted by the Inspectors.

“Québec is a rich multicultural mosaic, which gives Québecois cuisine an invaluable uniqueness,’’ said Geneviève Cantin, CEO of the Alliance. “It is with immense pride that all of our partners welcome the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide across the Province of Québec, which will further showcase our local artisans on the international stage.”

The MICHELIN Guide constantly monitors the evolution of culinary destinations around the world and its selection process remains completely independent. While the selection is determined by our anonymous inspectors in a completely impartial manner, the MICHELIN Guide occasionally joins forces with the Alliance for exclusive marketing and promotional activities.

History and methodology of the MICHELIN Guide

The new selection of Québec restaurants will be based on the well-known methodology for which the MICHELIN Guide has been renowned for years.

A fair methodology for the MICHELIN Guide Québec

The upcoming Québec restaurant selection will follow Michelin’s historical methodology, based on five universal criteria, to ensure each destination’s selection equity:

  1.  Quality of products
  2. The harmony of flavors;
  3. The mastery of cooking techniques
  4. The voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine
  5. The consistency between each visit and throughout the menu (each restaurant is inspected several times a year).

To this day, the famous MICHELIN Guide remains an ally of choice for travellers all over the world in search of a good meal. The first copy was published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage tire sales by offering practical advice to French motorists. MICHELIN Guide inspectors continue to use the same criteria and selection methods as then, a methodology that is still used today for every destination.

New York City was the first North American destination to appear in the pages of the MICHELIN Guide, in 2005. It has since been joined by Chicago (2011), Washington (2017), California (San Francisco in 2007, followed by the entire state in 2019), Miami, Orlando and Tampa, Florida (2022), Toronto (2022), Vancouver (2022), Colorado (2023), Atlanta (2023), Mexico (2024), Texas (2024), and now the MICHELIN Guide Québec (2024).
