It opens with a bold, smoky base, blending Peru balsam, benzoin resin and guaiac wood, creating an addictive, warm base note. I have tested it several times and can confirm that it is indeed addictive. This contrasts with a vibrant heart composed of two geranium extracts—aromatic, green and floral—which bring both energy and complexity. The composition is enhanced by Calabrian bergamot and airy musks, which add brightness, clarity and freshness. A creation by the team of perfumers composed of Marie Salamagne, Bruno Jovanovic and Nicolas Bonneville.

The mysterious and hypnotic aura of this fragrance emanates from notes of leather and resin, almost evoking the scent of pine, but coming from cistus ladanifer, a Mediterranean plant. The perfume’s origins stem from a fruitful encounter between the artist and Ms. Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Vice President of Perfume at IFF (International Flavours and Fragrances) in Paris. With a wealth of experience working with multiple renowned brands, such as Yves Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo and Giorgio Armani, she collaborated with Mathieu on his inaugural collection, united by a common philosophy: revealing our inner selves by sharing personal stories that have an impact on others. This fragrance weaves together the heritage of this land, Mathieu’s personal past, and the individual imprint of whoever wears it.

Oud Zarian opens with the bewitching and mystical charm of incense (a scent I usually dislike, but not here) and its superb resinous notes, which are subtly blended with various comforting vanilla spices, almost chocolatey. These accords quickly give way to a radiant and present heart of centifolia rose (according to the brand’s website, this is a very rare species, which blooms on a creamy base of sandalwood, patchouli and myrrh). Adorned with a majestic 80-year-old choron oud, which we highlighted in the initial section, imbued with unmatched aromatic richness and woody depth, this scent transcends being merely a fragrance. It is a tribute to the tireless pursuit of excellence.

The iconic bottle, in a superb burgundy colour, features golden accents on the signature and cork, reflecting the brand’s attachment to royalty.
Oud Voyager by Tom Ford
The fragrance:
Oud Voyager Eau de Parfum is the latest creation from TOM FORD, with precious notes of oud and woody flowers. Discover the captivating essence of this ancient and precious ingredient, combined with a fresh accord of red peony and geranium absolute, before the exclusive triple distillation of the three notes that enhance the base, leaving a trail of timeless beauty in its wake.
The composition:
TOM FORD (the man who created James Bond’s suits) presents, for the first time, a floral oud tridistillate in an exclusive creation, combining rare oud and red floral notes. This fragrance amplifies each note to its luminous peak. Geranium absolute, with its rosy and fruity vitality, brings a delicate freshness. Cardamom and saffron oils add enveloping warmth, while the freshness of citrus blends with the boldness of pink pepper for a dazzling olfactory journey. The woody and amber notes of tonka bean and vanilla complement the deep accents of saffron, creating a fascinating and surprising harmony. A refined experience that gradually unfolds, offering a radiant interpretation of the spicy and sweet fragrance of saffron.
