Bangkok: 3 Luxury Hotels You Shouldn’t Miss

While I spend a good part of my winter and spring in Asia through my work as a tour guide for Groupe Voyages Québec, I love taking in what’s new, and hotels in particular. I have to admit, I love the comfort of a good night’s sleep, especially given the jet lag after a flight from Québec. Today, I’m sharing 3 luxury hotels in Bangkok that I had the chance to visit, though some also have locations in other Asian cities.

lebua Bangkok is probably the best known of the 3 luxury hotels in Bangkok, thanks to its Sky Bar, made famous by The Hangover Part 2, with Bradley Cooper. In fact, the hotel even has a Hangover Suite. In my opinion, it likely has the most beautiful terrace in Bangkok, rivalled only by the Banyan Tree’s. Although the hotel was built in the late 1990s to early 2000s, it’s currently undergoing a complete transformation. Every room is being redone. It’s already stunning.

The hotel is divided into three sections: the State Tower, the Tower Club Signature Collection, and the Tower Club. Each section offers a different experience, growing more luxurious depending on the level.

An evening at Chef’s Table

Perched on the 65th floor, Chef’s Table, one of the hotel’s two Michelin-starred restaurants alongside Mezzaluna, serves classic French cuisine centred on the purity of its ingredients, under Chef Vincent Thierry. It’s an extraordinary experience, as you can see in the photos below, with a farm-to-table menu.

The other restaurants

Sirocco, the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant led by Chef Brian Rodriguez, is not to be missed! Whisky lovers, take note: Alfresco 64 is the highest whisky bar in the world! You’ll also find Flûte by lebua, a Bollinger champagne bar, the champagne of choice for James Bond.

To cool off, the outdoor pool is a true haven of peace. You can simply drop by to relax and refresh after a day exploring the city, or spend the whole day there.

Anantara Siam : The second of 3 luxury hotels in Bangkok you shouldn’t miss

Known as the historic “grande dame” of Thai luxury hospitality, this hotel belongs to one of my favourite hotel chains. I’ve also visited the property in Chiang Rai, called the Golden Triangle, with its elephants, and the one in Chiang Mai, which I love for its thoroughly contemporary style. 

So, back to my visit: the Anantara Siam is more of a historic hotel with a classic style in the heart of the city. At the time of writing, it’s in the midst of a US$50 million renovation project and is considered one of Bangkok’s most prestigious addresses. 

The rooms and suites

Everything was remarkably well done, from the welcome to the rooms to the dining, in what I’d describe as a boutique hotel despite its 335 rooms and suites. By the way, pets are welcome.

Its peaceful inner courtyard with its pool is certainly one of the hotel’s highlights, offering an urban haven of peace surrounded by greenery and elegant cabanas, while the wellness centre is an ultramodern space featuring the latest Technogym equipment, an infrared sauna, and a dedicated Pilates studio.

The rooms and suites, all renovated as part of the major project mentioned above, range from around $350 to nearly $15,000 (CAD) for the Anantara Pool Residence, designed for 14 adults with its 6 bedrooms.

A comprehensive selection of restaurants and bars, ranging from a New York-style steakhouse to an upscale restaurant and bar, not to mention afternoon tea. You won’t be disappointed.

I also love its location near the BTS Skytrain line, which runs directly to the airport. No need to overthink how you’ll get to the hotel. 

French speakers, rejoice! This is the only one of the three sites offering a French version, and you can even choose the currency you’ll pay in when booking.

The Sukosol : The last of 3 luxury hotels in Bangkok you shouldn’t miss

Not to be confused with The Siam Hotel, from the same group and also in Bangkok, The Sukosol is another fairly recent hotel with a great location as well. Here, the style is a little more classic. It’s a contemporary hotel with no fewer than 500 rooms and over 40 suites, yet it still manages to deliver personalized service. You feel as though you’re staying at a much smaller hotel, that’s how personal the service is. 

The rooms and suites

Here, the rooms are very spacious. The one I stayed in even had a living room, with plenty of room to move around. The quality of the materials is not left to chance, and it’s all very well executed. 

Outside, on the 6th floor, the hotel features a 20-metre pool (1.15 m to 1.8 m deep) with no fewer than three whirlpools, surrounded by lounge chairs (sun lovers will want to arrive in the morning to catch the best rays!) and served by a bar offering light snacks and refreshing drinks. What’s more, as part of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, the pool uses a salt chlorination system to reduce the hotel’s use of chemical products.

The Siam Executive Club

A hotel within the hotel. This is a place to unplug and unwind, perfect for business travellers passing through. It’s beautiful, quiet, and everything about it is delightful.

Location

What’s really nice about this hotel, just like the Anantara, is its location, just steps from the Skytrain that runs directly from the airport. So no need for a taxi or any other mode of transportation.

Why stay at these 3 luxury hotels in Bangkok?

In my opinion, all three hotels are havens of peace in a city that, let’s face it, is chaotic. And that gives you a break, it shields you from a city that, with its suburbs, is home to close to 20 million people, nearly half the population of Canada.

The appeal of staying at these luxury hotels lies in the strength of our dollar against Thailand’s. It’s far more affordable to treat yourself to a luxury hotel during a trip to this country than it would be back in Canada, the United States, or Europe, for example.

Service in Thailand is always exceptional, and even more so at luxury hotels. Every attention to detail is there, from the bedding to housekeeping, the common areas, the room, everything is always impeccable.
