Five Cars for a Memorable Summer: Perfect for Convertibles

Cruising down the country roads and enjoying the breathtaking scenery, as the warm rays of the sun stream through the windshield. It is also the perfect time for those who want to explore new parts of the country, or simply to go on an adventure.

Of course, convertibles are timeless beasts. Nothing compares to a Sunday ride, the wind in the hair; or a mid-work day break to savour that familiar feeling of freedom at the wheel of your whip.

However, to fully appreciate this experience, you need the right companion. We are not talking about the one in the passenger seat. It’s more about choosing the right carriage; one that allows you to enjoy a reinvigorating driving experience in extreme comfort.

Because a true gentleman can recognize comfort. He also knows how to recognize performance. Therefore, he must choose a car that will allow him to experience these unique and liberating moments of intensity. Being at the wheel of the five following models will keep you smiling all summer long.

BMW iX

BMW’s new all-electric sport utility vehicle is a true technological gem. It’s got two electric motors powered by an 11.5 kWh battery. It can therefore cover, in theory, up to 566 kilometres. But let’s be honest, that’s all for show.

The real beauty lies in its four-wheel steering that makes the driving experience an exceptional one. Pair that with a futuristic interior and a high-level infotainment system. The virtually endless automation offerings work from a sort of amped up car starter, that can even change the music and mood light of your car. For voice control, the car can even recognize the voice of the driver and differentiate it from that of the passenger. For example, people can send a command to activate only their seat’s ventilation. All that, crowned with more than 516 horsepower.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the most refined version of the German manufacturer’s electric models. The vehicle is also the top of the category in terms of battery life, but, once again, it is the comfort and the exceptional dashboard that catch the eye.

The huge Hyperscreens cover almost the full length dashboard, and house a high-end audio system and a top-of-the-line augmented reality GPS system. The 509 horsepower and electric all-wheel drive round out the driving experience. Also, do not worry about dozing off on the road, your car has got your back. The Attention Assist device even integrates a new camera that analyzes the driver’s eyelids movements to warn him if he is on the verge of falling asleep at the wheel.

Who else but the English to hit the country roads? Although, it would be a crime to reduce the Jaguar F-Type to a mere English car. She still has one of the most elegant silhouettes on the market. In convertible version, with its ever so dynamic profile, the vehicle truly looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Even in its humblest version, the Jaguar packs a punch, with a 5.0-litre V8 engine and 444 horsepower. The real beauty, however, is the sound of the engine that will make every neighbourhood you drive across roar with envy. Add to that, seats that offer exceptional support and somewhat complex ergonomics, and you will get a thrilling experience at every turn.

We cannot leave out the Chevrolet Corvette convertible. It is, without a doubt, the star of the sports cars industry since its release. A Corvette that has a mid-engine design definitely makes history. Even more so when it is relatively affordable, and offers a fiery driving experience.

On the outside, it competes with the supercars of this world. On the inside, it boasts a 6.2-litre V8 engine in the rear centre position, and generates 495 horsepower. If that wasn’t enough, be patient. A Z06 version is on the way, with even more muscle.

I will admit it, when it comes to talking about the Lexus LC500 convertible, every objective bone left my body. I fell in love with this vehicle, and I try to get my hands on it as often as I can. She offers exceptional comfort, an incredibly efficient smart temperature regulating system (I even tested the car roofless in the middle of winter), and a 471 horsepower 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces chilling roars.

In reality, what I truly love is the silhouette of the car, which is an absolute work of art. It has a few flaws, like token rear seats and an awkwardly placed shifter, but all is forgotten once you press the ignition button. I know she’s not perfect, but what is perfection when you are in love?
