The Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins Colorado

Located about two hours from Denver, in the small town of Fort Collins, home of Colorado State University (CSU), The Elizabeth Hotel (not to be confused with Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth) is a magnificent establishment that will appeal to everyone, especially music lovers. Its restaurants are inviting, comforting and it even has a hidden bar. We were invited there by Vortic Watches Co, whose story you can read here.

For the beauty of the hotel and its very interesting musical aspect, what is more, it is really magnificent, it is almost like a film set. You are in one of the most northerly towns in the state, just a few minutes from Wyoming. The natural feel of the town is really inviting, and you can run outside without any problem. The local food scene is very tempting, with several restaurants and bars offering local specialties such as bison meat and bourbon.

The ambiance

Music is at the heart of the hotel. From the instruments you can hire to the thousands of records, you can borrow to listen to in your room to the Magic Rat, the hotel’s music room, where local and well-known stars perform, not forgetting the Sunset Lounge, the rooftop bar-terrace on the 5th floor, where on certain evenings jazz artists take to the floor, much to the delight of visitors and locals alike.

The lobby of The Elizabeth Hotel is huge and many local entrepreneurs come here to work. It is not exactly quiet, but it is dynamic. The hotel also has a terrace, which is open on sunny days.

The story

Opened just before the 2017 holiday season, The Elizabeth Hotel is one of the few hotels in Fort Collins. The university town, which looks like a Disneyesque village (but nothing fake here), is a new building that blends in very well with the festive decor of the locality. It was an effort by the city’s economic development and developers that led to the construction of this magnificent hotel.

Comfortable, pretty without being extravagant. You will have a great time. The bathrooms are spacious. What is more, there is a musical theme in each one, including a turntable, as I mentioned earlier.

The hotel has 8 suites, including 3 signature suites. The Beer and Bike Suite features a range of beers and even a beer tap, The Ram Suite is designed as a university apartment in homage to CSU fans, and the Music Suite has its own grand piano.

Fine Dining

At The Elizabeth Hotel, you will find The Emporium, a comforting American brasserie inspired by French classics. For lunch, their Bagel & Lox (bagel and smoked salmon), was delicious, and the coffee at the Bowerbird was simply succulent, the baristas in Fort Collins have nothing to envy to those in Montréal. I have not tried the evening menu, but looking at it all, it looks so delicious.

As for the decor, it is inviting. The bar is superb, but the TV is too much, taking up a lot of space in the decor, but hey, it is a bar, and we are in the United States, so people like to listen to the various local sports.

The variety of wines, beers and spirits is impressive. There are many bottles that we do not have here. In fact, you can even buy them on the spot.

I did not try the gym, as I went for a run outside (there are plenty of sports facilities in the city), but this one looks superb, set up just above the hotel lobby with a large glass surface. Note that there is no swimming pool or jacuzzi.

The Surroundings

Just a stone’s throw away is the Otterbox shop, which was founded in Fort Collins, not forgetting the headquarters of Vortic Watches, which you can visit, who invited us to Fort Collins, as well as the many microbreweries.

The service

The personnel is friendly, smiling and competent. They will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants in town. Be precise in your requests, as the gastronomy of a small American town and that of Montréal are not on the same level.

Anything to add

Tea is served in the Sunset Lounge and you can leave with a coffee from the Bowerbird, even if there is a Starbucks nearby.
