This coffee was truly born from the dream of creating the best possible cup of coffee in response to the increasingly demanding palates of consumers across the planet and their penchant for rare, high-quality varieties. To achieve this, the Nespresso coffee team began by identifying the finest Arabicas in its catalogue of coffee collections.

Since 2003, over 20 years ago, Nespresso’s coffee masters have been working tirelessly to create this high-quality Arabica coffee plant and identify the ideal terroir in which this new variety could flourish and produce a coffee that reflects the quintessence of its culture.

A decades-long quest for perfection

Inspired by generations of growers who have traditionally crossed coffee varieties to create more resistant plants, the experts at Nespresso have decided to use this common practice in their quest for taste perfection.

Once they had found the combination that produces this high-quality taste, the team set about finding the ideal environment in which to plant the variety.
After experimental plantings in Colombia, Nicaragua and Indonesia, it was finally in the soil of Colombia’s Cauca and Caldas regions that the N° 20 by Nespresso developed best. Here, coffee was grown by 59 farmers who collectively planted and nurtured a million trees of this new and unique Arabica variety.

In keeping with Nespresso’s commitment to making coffee a force for good, the 59 farmers who grew the new variety are all part of Nespresso’s AAA Program, and therefore received a premium as a reward for their investment in sustainable high quality.

Guillaume Le Cunff, CEO of Nespresso, said: “N° 20 is the embodiment of Nespresso’s values: an obsession with perfection and a determination to innovate. Twenty years of dedication has resulted in an exquisite taste unlike anything that coffee lovers have tried before. The N° 20 by Nespresso is a seasonal coffee, which means that coffee lovers will be able to enjoy its elegant, aromatic profile for a limited period each year. To fully appreciate its rare, refined taste, Nespresso recommends savouring the subtle flavours of N° 20 as an espresso in a Riedel Reveal tasting glass.

As this is a limited edition with a restricted volume, it is first launched in Nespresso Original capsules, in a 5-capsule case, for 2023 before being available in Vertuo capsules in 2024.
