The Pentahotel Prague: Festive and perfectly located

The-Pentahotel-Prague---Entrance---Cover

I’ve been lucky enough to make a few trips over the past year. In May 2023, I stayed at the PentaHotel Prague, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary, during a trade mission to discover the wines of the Czech Republic with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa. Discover a hotel perfect for the traveller not necessarily looking for luxury, but an accessible pied-à-terre with a festive atmosphere.

A perfect location in a vibrant part of Prague!

Located in the Karlin District, it’s a bit like the Mile-End of Montréal or Brooklyn of Prague, a fast-developing area with restaurants, wine bars and a younger population that makes the area attractive. It’s really easy to get to, with the hotel just a short walk from the Křižíkova metro station, while the tram and bus pass in front of the hotel with stops just a few steps from the exit. If you’re driving, be aware that Prague traffic is hell, parking is available for hotel guests.

The reception and the bar are on the same counter, which can be confusing at first or can make you want to order a delicious Czech beer as soon as you arrive, depending on the situation. It all runs smoothly, though.

This reception area, the Pentalounge, includes a number of televisions where the Pentahotel Prague broadcasts various sports matches for its guests. During my stay, the World Ice Hockey Championship—the Czechs are big fans of ice hockey—and tennis were broadcast. The lobby, which is open 24 hours a day, includes, in addition to the bar, a pool table, a foosball table, the restaurant area and a section with a fireplace and sofa where you can relax. In short, you won’t be bored if you decide to spend an evening at the hotel.

The rooms

The rooms, 227 of them on 7 floors, are attractive and well built. A peculiarity of this hotel (I’ve seen it in a few hotels in Europe too) is that you have to leave the key in a slot, which activates the power, next to the door to open the lights. If you’re wondering why the lights don’t come on, that’s the reason. They also go out when you remove your key.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The bed is very comfortable, so you’ll have a great night’s sleep, especially if you’re a bit jet-lagged. There’s a small desk where you can work (don’t forget your European plugs). You’ll also be offered a bottle of mineral water to keep you hydrated.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The bathroom is well equipped. I only had a shower, but it was exactly what I needed, even though I love baths.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The hotel offers 4 types of room: the Penta Single Room, the Penta Standard Room, the Penta Plus Room and the Penta Junior Suite.

The food

The hotel offers a number of interesting options. A buffet-style breakfast with many choices is offered in the morning. For both Europeans and North Americans, there’s something for everyone (yoghurt, cereals, toast, eggs, etc.). Other meals are mainly North American specialties such as pizzas, burgers and nachos. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not offer any local delicacies. But the restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel are numerous and varied. There are also several grocery shops and wine shops nearby if you want to make your own food.

[spacer height=”20px”]

What’s more, Pentahotel Prague offers room service! Their full menu is available between 12 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and they even have a reduced menu they can provide at any time. Please note that room service is available at an additional cost.

There are 6 meeting rooms for up to 200 people in total. They offer everything you need, varying in size and all equipped with the latest technology and fast wifi. They are well lit, with windows in every one of them. Your team and clients will certainly feel at home and have a great time.

Unfortunately, I didn’t use the space as I was a bit tight on time and hadn’t packed everything I needed, but the facilities are superb as you can see from this photo. Enough to keep you in shape during your stay.
