Porsche Macan Turbo: Perfect SUV for the City

While many of us feel the need to invest in a car in order to escape from their residences which have become prisons. Let me tell you about my review of a beautiful little SUV that’s perfect for the city and for getting away from it all when the need arises. So after our test of the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, it’s the Porche Macan Turbo!

It’s my first time driving the Macan, but you can see that its design has really evolved, it is now more aggressive. The LED headlights with 4-point daytime running lights and 4-point brake lights are typical of Porsche’s DNA, it is easily distinguished from other SUVs.

For those who doubt it, this Porsche Macan is a real Porsche. Power is there, and it comes quickly, especially when you need it. With the dynamism of its superb curves and 21-inch wheels, the Macan proves that it really is a sports car. The updated rear design accentuates this sense of power. We notice the belonging to Porsche with the characteristic rear light strip which underlines the signature of the German brand. We should not forget the wide shape above the rear wheels which is reminiscent of the legendary 911.

From the side, too, he looks like a Porsche. A rounded silhouette, ready to attack, a real 911 in SUV format. Coupled with the sagging roofline, where you can have a sunroof accentuating the vehicle’s brightness, almost coupe-like than a raised car, this feeling of power adds to a very aerodynamic silhouette. This “flyline”, as Porsche calls it, so special that emphasizes the eminently sporting character of any Porsche. Exclusively for the Turbo version, the new roof spoiler optimize aerodynamics and you can feel it on the road when you press on the pedal a little more.

Like any good Porsche, the Porsche Macan Turbo sucks in air like a Dyson vacuum cleaner with its huge, enlarged air intakes at the front. Thus cooling the powerful 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder engine. Besides With its 440 hp, the new 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine is very powerful, I told you, it’s a raised 911. With a top speed of 270 km / h, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds, I obviously did not test it for safety reasons, but I still had some acceleration that were worth it. The maximum torque of 406 lb-ft is achieved between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm, which is where it starts to be fun. Note that the engine’s lightweight construction does not just provide additional performance, but it also helps reduce emissions. The VarioCam Plus, which adjusts the camshaft and valve lift settings, offers more efficiency and better performance.

The brakes of the Porsche Macan

While we can go so fast with the Porsche Macan, the braking must be impeccable. Up front, the various Macan models are fitted with 4-piston aluminum monobloc fixed caliper brakes. From the Macan S, 6-piston brake systems are used. The brake discs are self-ventilated; for consistently high braking power even with continuous use. The Macan Turbo Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) 390 mm diameter brake calipers on the front axle ensure excellent performance. The brake calipers in White with their shiny brake discs also add an aesthetic touch to the design, so you can ride in safety.

The 3-spoke sports steering wheel owes its design to the 918 Spyder. Thanks to the paddles, the hands remain permanently on the steering wheel, a perfect prerequisite for ergonomic, fast and sporty gear changes. Speaking of hands on the steering wheel, it really has a lot of functions, almost confusing and can lead us to take our eyes off the road if we do not know these controls well, I also had a little difficulty to find the cruise control.

The BOSE Surround Sound System has been specifically adapted for Macan models. Its 14 speakers with subwoofer and center speaker as well as a 14-channel amplifier with a total power of 665 watts deliver breathtaking sound. Standard on the Macan Turbo. Perfect for listening to your music on Apple CarPlay. Thanks to the optional phone storage, with induction charging function, your smartphone is much better integrated in the vehicle, and does not disturb you while driving. Direct connection to the vehicle’s exterior antenna reduces battery consumption while optimizing the quality of reception.

There is room in this small SUV, for your numerous expeditions to the cottage, for example. I even brought back my 43-inch Samsung The Frame TV, which had to stand. Its large trunk, with a volume of 488 liters, has been designed to allow the most diverse storage configurations. A storage compartment, located on the side, offers additional space. The rear seat can be folded down into three parts (40: 20: 40), and thus frees up to 1,503 liters for your luggage. These will be protected from the sun and prying eyes by a removable rear cover. Also removable is a ski bag from PorscheTequipment. It can be used for transport outside the car and it is washable. The only small disappointment, on the standard Turbo model, the benches are lowered manually and not electronically with a button, as on several other SUV models.

With the optional air suspension, you can lower the loading sill by 30 mm with a button located inside the boot itself. The tailgate with a large rear window is heated. It opens in 5 seconds with the push of a button, unfortunately not with your foot under it, which is very handy when your arms are full. On the other hand, it is possible to memorize the opening height of the boot, for example to avoid any impact against a garage ceiling that is too low or if you are short.
