A trio of festive wines to go perfectly with your Easter meals!
Substance Ch Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2021
Washington State has more hours of sunshine than the famous Napa Valley, not far away. The Columbia River, the 4th largest in the country, flows through the state. The warm summers and continental climate favour the cultivation of vines, with Chardonnay being one of the leading grape varieties. Substance Ch is a wine of light and it radiates with yellow apples, Meyer lemon, the breeding giving it a full, buttery, butterscotch and finely wooded aspect. It will enhance fish in sauce, tapas or smoked salmon. A favourite in white. Sparkling!
Varietal:
- 100% Chardonnay
Firriato Le Sabbie Dell’Etna Rosato
Sicily fascinates not only with its sunshine and maritime climate, but also with Mount Etna, which rises to 3,323 metres above sea level and provides volcanic soil, an asset for the complexity of its wines. The producer Firriato (also known for their tasty white and red Sabbies) excels here with its organic wines, including the Sabbie Dell’Etna Rosato, which is a memorable rosé, and one delights in raspberry, tangerine, lime, flowers and a touch of smoke! It also improves with each sip. A treat with shrimp, even grilled, roast grain chicken or a good ham with pineapple, marinated pork tenderloin. Brilliant!
Varietal:
- 100% Nerello Mascelese
To conclude this trio of festive wines, the reds
Torres Mas La Plana Penedès 2017
“Mas La Plana” is the result of the vision and determination of Miguel A. Torres. This exceptional wine burst onto the international scene in 1979 by beating the world’s greatest Cabernets at the Gault & Millau Wine Olympics in Paris. Thus was born a legend. This emblematic and princely wine from the Penedès region, south of Barcelona, still obtains ratings of 92 to 97. A symphony on the palate of ripe black fruit and plum, with elegance and refined woodiness. A spell in a decanter will also give it wings. Grilled beef, lamb with garlic will go wonderfully well. Exhilarating!
Varietal:
- 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
The Torres Gran Coronas Reserva is a delicious and more modest alternative.
Try also the Torres Celeste Ribeiro Del Duero.
Happy Easter with this trio of festive wines!
