Hennessy Sound Box at W Montréal: Rhythms That Warm Up

It’s sitting in the Living Room of the W Montréal, the name of the hotel lobby nestled in the heart of Victoria Square if you prefer that I’m writing this article to tell you about the Hennessy Sound Box at the W Montréal experience. An immersion in a hip-hop musical universe perfect to warm you up during this winter. In fact, both brands have developed a strong interest in music over the past few years, whether it be through the sponsorship of various events for the French alcohol brand, or through the creation of a record label for the hotel brand, namely W Records.

It is the continuation of the partnership with LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) that allows this musical immersion at W Montréal to take place. After Moët & Chandon’s Champagne Box, which ran from the end of 2021 to the end of June 2022, it is now the famous cognac that occupies the space of the hotel’s former intimate bar.

Before we talk about the tasting, let’s take a look at the atmosphere of the box itself. The room is worthy of the VIP experience one might have at a hip-hop show. We are miles away from the romantic atmosphere of Moët & Chandon, whether it is with the basketballs, the multitude of LPs that you can choose yourself, but its ambience is warm and rhythmic. Its bar will seduce you with its various bottles (which you cannot consume as you please though). The art is also present with a painting that pays homage to Basquiat featuring Notorious B.I.G., the legend of the rap/hip-hop movement.

Don’t think that the music is only English-speaking, far from it. For example, there is the Québec province artist Loud, who is sponsored by the famous brand of cognac. The older ones will like the big ones from Compton like N.W.A, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre or those from the East Coast like RUN DMC or Biggie that we named above, without forgetting Drake or The Weeknd from Toronto.

For cognac lovers, the Hennessy Sound Box at W Montréal is the perfect place.

We have to talk about the liquids. The experience is interesting, but a little less fascinating than that of Moët & Chandon. You have a selection of cocktails (2) based on cognac, including the famous Hennessy Ginger and an Old Fashioned, as well as a tasting of the X. O. from the house of Hennessy. It would have been interesting to have been able to have a guided tasting for the first two cognacs, in order to be able to appreciate the taste of the cocktails afterwards.

The cocktails are a delight, don’t get me wrong, except that I have the impression that we learn less about the history of Hennessy than we do about Moët champagne during the two hours of our tasting. I would have liked to have been told about the different cognacs, the choice of cognacs for cocktails. And also the background of the music involvement of the French brand.

Another point that bothers slightly, but is a detail, is that the W Montréal’s Living Room speakers are present in the Sound Box, which means that the background music sometimes mixes with the hits you are playing, taking away some of the fun of the experience.

I also suggest that you order food, because although cocktails may seem harmless, if you come at W Montréal on an empty stomach, you will find yourself intoxicated in no time.

If you want to celebrate a friend’s birthday or a bachelor party, this is simply the perfect place. Plus, it’s right next to the metro.

The Living Room, the name given to the hotel lobby, with its bar and DJs present a few nights a week, is the perfect place to continue your evening under a wild musical theme with delicious cocktails, with the Hennessy why not.

The cost of the experience is $95/person, for a maximum of 6 people. Note that guests staying at W Montréal in the WOW and EWOW suites can enjoy complimentary access for two people.

The Hennessy Sound Box at W Montréal experience runs until March 31, 2023.
